LED Lighting is much more energy efficient than other types of lighting. The important metric to consider is wattage. When the electrical utility bills the consumer for power, Kw/H (kilowatts per hour) is the unit of measurement. The use of LED lighting will positively impact the efficiency of any lighting application. Exactly how great the improvement depends on the existing lighting.
For example, a church recently retrofitted their recessed ceiling can lights from 250w BR40 halogen bulbs to our 24w AT-PAR38 LED lamps. This saved them over 90% in electrical usage, not including the air conditioning reduction because of the reduced heat output of the LED lamps. The benefits aren’t always this dramatic, but an improvement of 50% to 80% is typical, even when compared to fluorescent lighting.
